The Atlanta Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Assessment is a project of the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) Office of Planning. This work is being led by the consultant team of TSW, Canvas Planning Group, and The Zoeckler Firm. This Assessment includes a review and analysis of best practices in major peer cities and innovative zoning and land use practices such as form-based ordinances and hybrid zoning ordinances (i.e. those that incorporate form-based and conventional land use-based provisions).  Additionally, the Assessment will focus on how well the current Zoning Ordinance implements City policies and plans, such as the Comprehensive Development Plan and will also identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing Zoning Ordinance in terms of its content, structure, organization, clarity, ease of use, enforcement, zoning districts and district standards, regulations of general applicability, definitions, graphics, and procedures.

The last two public meetings were held:
Wednesday, May 18th from 7:00 PM to 8:30PM
Passion City Church
515 Garson Drive N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30324

Thursday, May 26th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC)
1630 Metropolitan Parkway, S.W.

These public meetings were an opportunity to present project findings and strategic recommendations for changes that should be made as part of the eventual Zoning Ordinance update process. These recommendations include:

• New Zoning Code Format
• Improving Urban Design
• Protecting Neighborhood Character
• Creating Vibrant Corridors & Districts
• Expanding Transportation Options
• Ensuring Housing Diversity
• Supporting Jobs & Innovation
• Creating a User-Friendly Code

The previous public meetings for the project were held on January 11th at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and on January 12th at Passion City Church. These evening meetings provided an opportunity for the Office of Planning and the Consultant Team to present an update on the work that has been done to-date and to gather comments and input from the broader community.
